In this article, Laura L. Katz, a partner in the Health Law Practice Group, explains how the Anti-Kickback Statute, part of the health care reform law passed in March 2010, exposes physicians to greater liability.

The statute, which amends the federal Medicare/Medicaid Anti-Fraud and Abuse Statute, makes it easier for the government to prove a violation of the statute and gives the government greater tools to enforce the law. The article recommends that physicians understand the scope of the statute and to put compensation arrangements in writing.
