In this article about tense negotiations between actors and advertisers over their TV-commercials contract, Ira M. Shepard, a Partner in the Labor, Employment and Employee Benefits Practice Group in the Washington, DC office, said the disparity in pay between online and TV commercials would make the negotiations "exceptionally nervewracking."

Having served as the advertisers' chief negotiator during the 2000 commercials strike and the 2003 commercials contract negotiations, Shepard is familiar with the negotiations process.

"The current contract's basis is in the 1950s, and if you try to change a contract that hasn't been changed in many, many years, it's going to be a very tough negotiation," Shepard said.
