Michael J. Joyce

Michael Joyce assists clients with commercial litigation matters.  He has experience handling a wide variety of commercial disputes, as well as litigation involving trade secrets and restrictive covenants, insurance, and intellectual property. He has also handled claims involving professional malpractice and product liability.

Michael’s insurance litigation work includes many types of insurance disputes. He also has significant experience defending fiduciaries against various claims asserted under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).  Michael’s ERISA experience encompasses the defense of a global health insurance and health service company against ERISA claims, and also the defense  of other fiduciaries in actions involving the duty to monitor and other fiduciary duties under ERISA.

Clients ranging from global companies to local and small businesses, across numerous industries, rely on Michael for advice in a broad catalog of litigation-related matters. Michael also represents media industry clients on matters ranging from defamation to privacy issues to government open records/Right to Know law disputes.

  • An international heavy construction and oil and gas equipment supplier in a breach of contract ligation in federal court
  • An oil and gas industry supplier in non-compete litigation in the Marcellus Shale region
  • An international outdoor power tools and machine manufacturer in multiple product liability and personal injury claims
  • An alcoholic beverage supplier in a multi-million dollar intellectual property lawsuit against a global competitor
