Barry A. Chatz

Partner

Barry Chatz counsels businesses and individual parties in companies who are facing complex legal issues due to financial distress and significant operational challenges. His advice is informed by his more than 30 years of experience representing lenders, unsecured creditors and corporate debtors in bankruptcy cases around the country. The bankruptcy matters he has handled span a range of industries from agriculture and food retailers to horse racing and real estate. Barry’s understanding of the intersection between bankruptcy and real estate law is underscored by his role as an instructor at the John Marshall Law School, where he teaches the class “Bankruptcy and Insolvency Laws Affecting Real Estate.”

Barry draws on these experiences to assist family businesses facing difficult transitions. His work frequently involves circumstances where senior generations are handing off operations, either within or outside the family, or winding down the business. He also assists younger generations who are facing struggles over the evolution of the business. Barry brings additional insight to these engagements from his own experience at Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr as a member of Executive Committee. In this role, he was a key player in a merger that brought together two already strong law firms, positioning the combined organization for future growth, and he continues to shape its daily operations and strategy for serving clients.
